ܝܰܣܡܳܐ ysmʾ yasmā jasmine
Allotropes: ܝܲܣܡܝܼܢ ysmyn yasmin, plur. ܝܲܣܡܝܼܢܹܐ ysmynʾ yasminē; ܝܣܡܢܓ ysmng
MP yāsman, or yāsmfin [yʾsmn'] jasmine (CPD 97, who, however, reads yāsaman); ManMP jʾsmn /ǰāsmin/ id. (Durkin-Meisterernst 2004, 197); NP yās, yāsim, yāsam, yāsaman, yāsamūn, yāsamīn jasmine or jessamine (Steingass 1526), cf. NP yāsaminī of jasmine colour; NP yāsamīnak little jasmine (Steingass 1526); Arm. LW yasmik jasmine (Hübschmann AG 198, no. 420); Gr. LW ἱάσμη, ἱάσμινον (Frisk I 706). — Talm. Aram. ysmyn jasmine (Telegdi 245, 81); Arab. yasmīn id. Syr. ysmng comes from an unattested derivative of the MP model, probably *yāsminag, or *yāsmanag; cf. NP yāsamīnak, where the voiceless final plosive is preserved (see §§ 11.3.1.1 and 9.3.2). Telegdi claims that the model of Talm. Aram. ysmyn has been MP yāsmīn (same form quoted in Laufer 1919, 331), and agrees with Hübschmann in reconstructing MP *yāsmīk, on the basis of Arm.
