ܓܳܘܰܪܘܣ gwrws gāwarus (or gāwaros?) millet
MP gāwars [gʾwls] sorghum, giant millet (CPD 35); NP gāvars millet (Steingass 1073); the second w in gwrws is unclear: maybe it has been inserted to avoid a double closed syllable (and the quality of the epenthetic vowel is conditioned by the sequent /r/); Gignoux (personal communication) suggests that perhaps this w is a rendering of a short middle central vowel, something like a šəwa, or it is due to the analogy with the Greek loanwords in -os ● BB 1361, 20 ◆ LS 110b; Lagarde GA 27, 64; Löw 101; Duval index pers. 216
