ܛܰܪܝܳܢܩܳܐ ṭrynqʾ ṭaryānqā whey
Perhaps Early MP *tarrēnak, later *tarrēnag, a derivative of MP tarr [tl] moist, fresh (CPD 82, Nyberg 192), NP tar moist, wet, juicy, fresh, green (Steingass 291)? Cf. NP tarīna a kind of food or sowings eaten by the poor, pot-herbs (Steingass 299). LS suggests that the Syr. word probably comes from Persian, like Arab. ṭernīǧ. The vocalization is indicated in BA. The loanword, in any case, is old. LS wrongly gives two separated words with identical form and meaning (ṭrynqʾ ṭaryānqā "serum lactis" and ṭrynqʾ Takrit. "serum lactis") ● EN 36, 15; BA 4340; BB 828, 4 and 29 ◆ LS 289a, 290a; Duval index pers. 215 and 222
