MP azg [ʾzg] branch (CPD 16; the etymon has been suggested by Gignoux, personal communication), NP azγ a thing lopped, a slip, cutting, scion (Steingass 44; Horn 269), whose semantic value evolved towards "arch, vault". Maybe connected with NP saγ an oblong arched edifice, portico, gallery; a roof, a story (Steingass 683)?
