ܕܰܪܓܽܘܫܬܳܐ drgwštʾ darguštā plur. ܕܲܪܓܘܼܫܝܵܬܵܐ drgwšytʾ dargušyāṯā litter, sedan-chair
MP *dargīč? Cf. Arm. dargič (or darguč) strechter, litter (Telegdi 240, 57; cf. Hübschmann 1892, 235 no. 25; Id. AG 137, 177). — Talm. Aram. drgšʾ bed, couch (Telegdi 240, 57). In Aram. and Syr. š may be the rendering of Pers. /č/ (see § 11.3.4); the loanword is an ancient one, being attested already in the 5th century. Perhaps related to ManMP, MP dagr long (CPD 23; Nyberg 56), ManParth. drγ, drg /darγ/ long (Durkin-Meisterernst 2004, 137 and 139), OP *darga- (Hinz 1975, 83)? Syr. drgwštʾ shows the Syr. fem. suffix -tā; as regards the Ir. suffix preceding the Syriac one, drgwštʾ may be a further indirect evidence of the Ir. suffix -īča-: see Shaked 1985, 522 n. 46 and s.vv. dḥšʾ and qpyzʾ ● Act 5, 15 (Phil); IAB 1, 510u; Bh chr 486, 18; gr 1, 219, 19; BB 591, 16; 1870, 1; BA 3221 ◆ LS 165b; PS Comp. 97
