ܡܽܘܙܳܐ [?] mwzʾ muzā Musa paradisiaca Ferr.
It is not clear whether the Syr. word comes from Indo-Iranian or from Arabic. LS quotes the old etymological proposal advanced by Pott (ZKM 5, 81), namely the comparison with NP mūz, mawz banana, plantain-fruit (Steingass 1344); cf. OInd. moca- Moringa pterygosperma, the plaintain Musa sapientium (Turner 1966, no. 10348). — Arab. mawz banana ● Löw 336 ◆ LS 376b
