ܫܝܪܙܝܕ šyrzyd milk
Perhaps to compare with NP šīrzād name of a fattening drug which gives an increase of milk; lichen esculentum (Steingass 773); LS holds that the Syr. word corresponds to NP šīrāf (mentioned by BB, but not recorded in Steingass); PS and Duval refer to NP šīrāz curd strained and firm; a kind of cheese (Steingass 773), but these comparisons only concern the first element of the Ir. compound, which is clearly MP, NP šīr milk. As to the rendering of Ir. /ā/ with Syr. y see § 11.3.6 ● BB 490, 11 ◆ LS 774a; Duval index pers. 222; PS 4143
