ܪܬܢܝܓ [?] rtnyg medicament
LS compares NP ritībānaǰ a kind of sea-crab; a sort of medicinal stone (Steingass 569); but the Syr. word comes from Arab. rātīnaǧ, ratīnaǧ, NP rātīnaǰ resine of the pine-tree (Steingass 561), as rightly claimed by PS Suppl. 324; cf. also Arm. LW (← Arab.) ṙatinêč id. (cf. Belardi 2003, 158; Hübschmann AG 275, no. 136). The Arabic origin of the loanword in Armenian and in Syriac does not exclude, however, the possibility that the word is of remote Iranian origin. The Syr. meaning "medicament" depends on the fact that the pine resine is used as an ingredient of black salve for wounds ● Med 586, 13 ◆ LS 747b
