ܩܠܝܫܐ [?] qlyšʾ cake
Allotrope: ܩܪܝܫܐ qryšʾ
Cf. NP kulīǰ bread which, having fallen from the side of the oven, has been baked in the ashes; a large cake (Steingass 1045); the word is attested in Russian as kulič, which—according to Vasmer 1950–1958, s.v.—would be a loanword from Modern Gr. κολλίκι(ον), in its turn a derivative from Gr. κόλλιξ a coarse or barley bread (see also Frisk I 899). The Syr. spelling with š represents Ir. voiceless /č/: see 11.3.4 ● BB 942, 14 ◆ LS 671b: cf. klīǰā Dozy 2, 482; Socin 1890, 135 n. 161
