ܦܰܣܳܢܺܝܩܳܐ ܕܰܪܘܳܣܦܳܢ psnyqʾ drwspn pasāniqā darwāspān a title
Not recorded in LS; Shaked (1995, 181) traces back the Syr. form to MP pasānīg *darwāz-pān the courtier (who is) door keeper; NP darvāz(a)-bān door-keeper, gate-keeper (Steingass 515). The first element is MP pasānīg courtier, ManMP psʾnyg /pasānīg/ follower, attendant, courtier (Shaked 1995, 181; Maricq 1955, 276 n. 1; Henning 1942, 949, M 3:7; Durkin-Meisterernst 2004, 284). As regards the second element, Shaked reconstructs MP *darwāz-pān, the antecedent of NP darvāz(a)-bān door-keeper; in contrast, Peeters (1951, 141) claims that in the second word of the Syr. sequence psnyqʾ drwspn the Syr. preposition d- is to be seen, and consequently he interprets rwspn as "la garde du jour", clearly analysing the word as a rendering of MP rōz-pān. If Peeters were right, rwspn would be an allotrope of the Syr. LW rwzbnʾ executioner ← MP rōzbān (see s.v.); however, the vocalization pasāniqā darwāspā in Bedjan 1895, 230 seems to favour Shaked's interpretation. See also Arm. LW darapan door-keeper (Bolognesi 1960, 38; Hübschmann AG 137, no. 175); on the final voiceless velar stop in Syr. psnyqʾ see § 11.3.1.1 ● Bedjan, Hist. 266 and 230 ◆ Shaked 1995, 181 and 183
