LS compares NP, Arab. saraxs a medicinal wood, black without and green within, found on the shores of the Caspian Sea (Steingass 672). However, the term is early attested and would have been borrowed from MP, where a possible antecedent of NP saraxs does not seem to occur ● srqš Med 215, 5; EN 25, 68; srʾš BB 1282u ◆ LS 499b; Löw 266; PS Suppl. 242 translates "Pteris aquilina, the brake fern"
