ܟܽܘܫܢܶܐ [?] kwšnʾ kušnē (plur.) a kind of pulse, the bitter vetch
Perhaps from an antecedent of NP kušna pease, a vetch (Steingass 1034); see also NP kišnī a vetch, pea (ibid.). LS compares NP kišnak a kind of black-coloured vetch of a fattening quality, which, when deprived of its husk, is given to cattle, and NP kisnak a grain used to fatten cattle (Steingass 1034 and 1030); karsana, kuršana a kind of pulse; a bread-basket (ibid. 1023). See also Arm. khušnay a kind of pulse, borrowed from Syriac or from Arabic (cf. Hübschmann AG 319, no. 127). — Arab. kušnā lentil tare, slender vetch ● AS 3, 39, 5; Geop 47, 18; J St 36, 15; Dion T 135, 2 ◆ LS 350b; Lagarde GA 59, 149; Löw n. 170; Duval index pers. 225; PS Comp. 212
