ܟܐܓܕ [†] kʾgd paper
According to LS, loanword from NP kāγad, kāγid, kāγaz , kāγiz paper, letter (Steingass 1006); on the contrary, Gignoux (personal communication) believes that the word comes from Arabic, not from Persian: cf. Arab. kāγit paper. Previously Horn 1898, 7 hypothesised that the word was of Chinese origin. This hypothesis has been rejected by Laufer 1919, 557 ff., according to whom the word for "paper" comes from a Turkish language: cf. Uighur käg-dä, kagat, kagas ● Cat Bod 211, 19 ◆ LS 317b
