ܙܘܠܪܓܪܕ zwlrgrd falsified document
The Syr. term represents an Iranian compound, whose first element is surely MP zūr [zwl] false, deceitful (CPD 99); ManMP zʿwr /zūr/ deceit, falsehood; deceitful, false (Durkin-Meisterernst 2004, 381); NP zūr lie, falsehood (Steingass 628). Lagarde GA 184, 41 proposes emending the Syr. form to zwrngrd, and relating the second element of the compound to MP, NP angārdan, angārīdan to think, imagine, estimate, suppose (Steingass 113; Horn 28), NP angārda a fable, story, narrative (Steingass 113). This hypothesis is not tenable. More probably, as Gignoux suggests (personal communication), the Syr. word is a rendering of MP zūr-gird "fait faux"; the presence of -lr- in the Syr. form must be simply a scribal error ● Rechtsb. 3, 190, 5 cit.
