ܘܰܪܫܳܢܳܐ [†] wršnʾ waršānā woodpigeon
The Persian origin was suggested by Müller 1896, 275: cf. NP var(a)šān a turtle-dove, woodpigeon (Steingass 1463; Schapka 1972, 277 f.). LS only compares Arab. warašān, which in fact comes from Syr. However, Schapka (1972, 277 f., no. 863) holds that the NP word has a Semitic origin, and refers to Akkad. uršānu, amuršānu (AHw 1, 46; Zimmern 1917, 51) ● EN 45, 16; BB 669,14 ◆ LS 186b
