ܓܘܙ ܨܢܓ gwz ṣng Nux indica (vomitiva)
LS refers to NP گوز زنج gawz-i zanǰ; this sequence, whose first element is MP gōz, NP gawz, gōz nut, walnut (see the previous entry), is not recorded by Steingass; for the second element, LS refers to NP zanǰ plaint, lamentation (Steingass 624), which however may also be the Arabized form of NP zang, name of a country (Egypt, Ethiopia, India): see Steingass 626; Dihxudā, s.v. The rendering of Pers. /z/ with Syr. ṣ, however, is rare, and appears mostly in late borrowings (see § 11.3.3). If the Syr. sequence does not correspond to NP gōz(-i) zang "Indian nut", a different possibility is that it represents MP *gōz (ī) čēnīg, or NP, Arab. *gōz(-i) ṣīnīǰ, lit. "Chinese nut": see s.v. dnd ṣynyʾ Croton tilium, drṣyny Laurus cinnamomum and sndryg seed of garden rue ● BB 462, 22; 475, 15 (s.l.) ◆ LS 108b
