ܓܘܓܪܫܢ ܫܗܪܝܪܐܢ gwgršn šhryrʾn a medicament
Allotropes: ܓܘܪܫܢ gwršn, ܓܘܪܫܢܐ gwršnʾ (emendation from ܓܣܪܫܢ gsršn in Med 370, 17) digestive
MP gugārišn (ī) šahryārān (Gignoux 1998–1999, 196: "royal digestive"; cf. also Id. 1998, 727 and § 9.3.2, above); MP gugārišn is a derivative of MP gugār(ī)dan, gugār- [gwkʾl-(y)tn'], NP guvār-īdan to digest (CPD 38); cf. NP guvāriš any electuary for assisting digestion (Steingass 1100). The second word is the adjective in -ān from MP šahryār [štr'dʾl] lord, sovereign, ruler (CPD 79); ManMP šhryʾr, šhryʾʾr /šahryār/ ruler, king, landholder (Durkin-Meisterernst 2004, 318); NP šahryār id. The allotropes gwršn, gwršnʾ appear in BB, and probably in Med 370, 17 where however we find the (corrupt) form gsršn; in PS Suppl. both the identification and the translation of the word are incorrect, as already noted by Gignoux 1998–1999, 196 ● gwgršn šhryrʾn Med 361, 8; cf. 393, 5; gwršn(ʾ) BB 475, 25 cf. 554, 6; 561, 5; Med 370, 17 ◆ LS 103b; 110b; PS Suppl. 76; Duval index pers. 216
