MP ādur [ʾtwr'] fire, the god Fire etc. (CPD 5; cf. Nyberg 35); Av. ātar-, ātr-; OP *ātr̥-; ManMP ʾdwr; Paz. ādur; Parth. ʾtrw (Gignoux 1972, 47; Rastorgueva – Èdel'man 2000, 319); NP ādar, āzar (Steingass 28 and 30; Horn 4). — Off. Aram. ʾtr (← OP *ātr̥-) also appears in several borrowed compounds, e.g. ʾtrbrzn (← *ātr̥brzana-), who attends to the fire; ʾtrprn (← *ātr̥farnah-), cf. Gr. Ἀταφέρνης in Ctesias (FGrH 688 F 1) for *Ἀταρφέρνης, Av. ātarə.xvarənah-, MP ʾtwrprnbgy = –dur-Farr-bay; ʾtrprt (← *ātr̥frata-); ʾtrwdn (← *ātr̥vaδana "Feuerwedel"?) etc. (Hinz 1975, 48 f.).
