ܙܢܳܓܳܐ zngʾ znāḡā 1. sound, twinkle (of an array of chariots); 2. chorus, rank; 3. met. harmony, series (of narratives)
Derivative: ܡܙܲܢܓܵܐ mzngʾ mzangā harnessed with bells (of a horse)
LS refers to Arab. zanǧ tympanon, in its turn a loanword from Pers. zang: Syr. zngʾ seems to be formally and semantically related to Syr. zgʾ (cf. the previous entry): a case of reborrowing is probable. Both forms are attested from ancient times, even if zgʾ zaggā, with the assimilation of the cluster n + C of the model, seems to be the older loanword (see § 11.5) ● zngʾ sound, twinkle Jud 5, 28; cf.
