ܩܽܘܪܛܳܐ qwrṭʾ qurṭā woollen jacket with wide sleeves; a long wrapper
Derivative: ܩܲܪܛܘܿܢܵܐ qrṭwnʾ qarṭōnā id.
NP kurta a tunic, waistcoat, jacket (Steingass 1021). The form qrṭwnʾ is derived by means of the Syr. suffix -ōnā, forming diminutives (see § 11.6). — JBA qrṭs a short and light linen dress (Shaked 1994, 108 f.; Jastrow 1903, s.v.); Arab. LW qurṭaq (Fraenkel 1886, 200); see also Russ. kurta, kurtka jacket. Shaked, cit., quotes Geiger (apud Krauss 1937, s.v. qrṭs), who suggests that the -s is an error for final qof, and that the proper spelling of the Aramaic word is qrṭq ● BB 1752, 11 ◆ LS 695a
