ܡܗܰܪܦܠܳܐ [?] mhrplʾ mharplā lash, whip
LS hesitantly proposes the Iranian origin of this term and refers to Nöldeke 1890, 16 n. 6, who observes that Syr. mhrplʾ, even if explained by lexicographers as meaning "lash, whip", in Syr. texts corresponds to Gr. δοράτιον, δόρυ and λόγχη, namely "lance, spear". As regards the etymon, Nöldeke, cit., admits a possible Iranian origin, but he cannot mention a specific Iranian model ● PsC 15, 7; BB 1024u ◆ LS 184b
