ܐܕܪܘܢܐ drwnʾ eddronā cubicle, vestibule, solarium; inner apartment, room, bedroom
MP andarōn [ʾndlwn'] inside, within (CPD 9), a compound of andar in, among, towards + rōn side, direction (Nyberg 18; see also Humbach – Skjærvø 1978–1983, 3/2, 50); ManMP ʾndrwn /andarōn/, /andarrōn/ within, inwardly, inner (Durkin-Meisterernst 2004, 46); NP andarūn within, the inside (Steingass 109); NP darūn within, interior (ibid. 515). — Talm. Aram. ʾydrwnʾ; ʾyndrwnʾ room, inner-room (Telegdi 226, 7; Shaked 2005, 169 ff.); Md. ʿndiruna, ʿndruna, andruna a booth constructed for ritual purposes such as marriage and initiation (Drower – Macuch 1963, 353). In MP the word is employed as an adverb, meaning "inside", as a preposition "in", and as an adjective "interior, inner"; only on the Pahlavi bowls does the word have the value of a substantive, meaning "the inner room" etc. (see Shaked 2005, 170 f.), a value which additionaly appears in NP, where the word also means "inner apartments". The substantive value of the term, even if not preserved in MP and NP literatures (with the unique exception of the occurrence on the above-mentioned magic Pahlavi bowls), is attested in Middle Aramaic loanwords borrowed from MP, and consequently is not a semantic innovation, but more probably a meaning pertaining to some Middle Persian dialect other than that which is attested in MP literature, as rightly suggested by Shaked 2005, 172.
