ܙܽܘܡܳܐ zwmʾ zumā hunting-bird
Reborrowing: ܙܘܡܓ zwmg
LS refers to NP, Arab. zummaǰ name of a bird, of the eagle kind (Steingass 621); the word is quoted as zum(m)aǰ "eagle, hawk" in Schapka 1972, 110 no. 374; according to LS, Arab. zummaǧ comes from Pers. zuma (not quoted in Steingass). As regards the relationship between the two Syr. forms, zwmʾ and zwmg, the first was borrowed from an unattested MP *zum, or from NP zuma, and the second one from an unattested derivative in -ak/-aγ, perhaps MP *zumag, or later from NP, Arab. zumaǰ ● BA 3458; BB 680, 20 ◆ LS 192b; Duval index pers. 219
